Job Title: ELA+ Instructor

Department: Instruction

Reports To: ELA+ Director

Compensation Range: $64,000 base + $16,000 bonus potential

TRS Classification: Classified

 

Summary:

ELA+ Instructors design and provide high quality literacy instruction for K-8th grade students enrolled in ELA+ classes at Epic Charter Schools. ELA+ instructors work remotely from their homes. Meetings in public places and at Epic offices are also required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Work with assigned students and their stakeholders, including roster teachers, to provide ELA instruction in a virtual learning environment.
  • Provide learning experiences and teach students English Language Arts.
  • Use technology as an everyday tool for teaching, learning, and communicating.
  • Direct the distribution of curriculum to students.
  • Teach students and their families how to use the online ELA curriculum and supplemental ELA curriculum.
  • Provide consultation and/or technical assistance to students and families.
  • Adapt ELA instruction and curriculum to the needs of students.
  • Communicate with each student through Zoom, email, and/or phone on an as needed basis.
  • Work to coordinate, schedule, assess, and implement appropriate ELA instruction for each student.
  • Conduct assessments of student needs.
  • Identify opportunities for additional ELA intervention for assigned students.
  • Communicate professionally with parents through conferences and other means to discuss the student’s progress and interpret the school program.
  • Perform administrative tasks for day-to-day management including: tracking student ELA grades, managing schedules and meetings, conferring with the school, while scheduling and monitoring student course progress.
  • Translate ELA lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Review ELA course work for every student.
  • Maintain ELA grades on the required database for school record.
  • Develop and follow ELA related Individual Learning Plans to assist in developing measurable goals for continuous improvement of assigned students.
  • Stay current with relevant research and teaching/learning trends as required to improve academic achievement.
  • Maintain updated ELA curriculum training.
  • Analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of curriculum and teaching methods.
  • Work closely with other teachers in the development of lesson plans that encompass the use of technology.
  • Formulate new strategies to ensure that teaching ELA to Epic Charter School standards is evident throughout the academic school year.
  • Report suspected child abuse/neglect.

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.

 

Education and/or Experience              

  • Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field, preferably related to elementary education, literacy, or English.

Language Skills                   

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.  Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and coworkers, both verbally and in writing.  Ability to effectively present information to students, families and supervisor. Ability to teach all components of Literacy, including: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing.

 

Mathematical Skills                   

Advanced math skills required

 

Reasoning Ability                   

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 

 

Computer Skills                   

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a strong knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

  • Current driver's license and valid car insurance
  • Oklahoma Teaching Certification in Secondary Education in subjects listed below or subjects or Alternative Teaching Certification as approved by Oklahoma State Department of Education.
    • Reading Specialist (PK-12)
    • English (5-12)
    • Early Childhood Education (PK-3)
    • Elementary Education (1-8)
    • Middle (6-8)
    • Special Education
  • Google Certification Preferred

 

Other Qualifications                  

  • Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made
  • Must have favorable employment references

This position works remotely from the home, but also must travel to Epic offices and public meetings as needed. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
