Stipend Opportunity: Basketball Coach

Reports To: Basketball Coordinator

Stipend Amount: $1,000 per team coached

 

Summary:

 

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Basketball Coach to lead our team, develop player skills, and foster a positive, competitive environment. The coach will be responsible for planning and conducting practices, creating game strategies, mentoring athletes, and promoting sportsmanship. This is a stipend position ideal for individuals with a strong understanding of basketball, leadership skills, and a commitment to athlete development.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Main Duties:

  • Plan and conduct regular basketball practices to develop players’ skills, conditioning, and teamwork.
  • Coach the team during games, including making strategic decisions, managing player rotations, and providing guidance and feedback.
  • Ensure compliance with NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) regulations by completing the required courses.
  • Develop game strategies and prepare the team for competitive play.
  • Mentor and support athletes, fostering their growth both on and off the court.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and a positive team culture.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school staff regarding team matters and schedules.
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: 

  • This role will have no supervisory duties    

Education and/or Experience:              

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred 
  • Experience in basketball coaching and player development required

 Qualifications:

  • Experience coaching basketball at the high school or youth level.
  • Strong knowledge of basketball rules, strategies, and player development techniques.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate and mentor athletes.
  • Completion of the NFHS compliance course or willingness to complete it prior to the season.
  • Commitment to promoting sportsmanship and a positive team culture.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel for games as required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (preferred).
  • Previous playing experience (preferred but not required).
  • Relationship-building and relationship management skills. Ability to work cooperatively with students, parents, staff and the general public
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Must possess excellent conflict resolution and the ability to problem solve in a timely and effective manner

Language Skills:                   

  • Ability to provide quick and concise responses to common inquiries from staff members. 
  • Ability to communicate effectively with coworkers, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to effectively present information to coworkers and management.

Mathematical Skills:                   

  • Basic math skills required.

Reasoning Ability:                   

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.  

Computer Skills:                 

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Current driver's license and valid car insurance

Other Qualifications:                  

  • Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check
  • Must have favorable employment references

This position is remotely based and also must travel to various Epic sites. This requires spending a significant amount of time in the car, driving in various conditions and at various times of day. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud (when students are present).
