Compensation Range: 50,000 to 55,000

Summary: 

The Native Programs Region Specialist works closely with the Lead Region Specialist within the Native American Programs department. Their primary responsibility is to provide support to Native American students and their families, ensuring culturally relevant programming and resources are implemented effectively. This position will focus on our students in the Southwest region of the state. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

• Be familiar with Title VI Indian Education.
• Collaborate with the Lead Region Specialist and Native American Programs team to develop comprehensive efforts supporting Native American students through cultural activities and academic support.
• Assist in authenticating curriculum and content regarding Native Americans in collaboration with Instructional Coaches.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with tribal nations and community-based organizations to enhance outreach initiatives.
• Contribute to planning events and activities that recognize and celebrate Native American heritage.
• Develop content for monthly newsletters for Native American students and families, highlighting program events and meetings.
• Assist with cultural sensitivity and diversity training to foster inclusion within the school community.
• Provide educational planning, cultural advocacy, and guidance to professionals and student service offices for Native American students.
• Support teachers and students with Native American cultural workshops to promote awareness of cultural identity and heritage.
• Increase awareness of current events relevant to Native American issues through planning events, forums, conferences, and collaborations.
• Communicate with families and stakeholders regarding upcoming events and academic opportunities. 
• Plan, organize, promote, and implement events including, but not limited to, field trips, cultural workshops (virtual and in-person), and academic tutoring (virtual and in-person).  
• Attend any meetings set forth by the Lead Regional Specialist and Program Director. 

Education and/or Experience 

• Bachelor’s degree and teacher certification required 
• Experience and knowledge of implementation of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504, as applied to school-related implementation, are preferred
• Experience with Title VI/JOM programs 

Qualifications 

• Can establish and maintain connections with tribal education and Native community leaders to stay current with tribal benefits regarding student resources, academic incentives, clothing resources, and cultural activities and events.
• Be proficient in understanding the process of using tribal/national resources to apply for services and programs. Remain updated with changes regarding family and student benefits available to citizens and those residing in tribal districts. Has a clear understanding of the impact of a student's status regarding Homelessness and Disability when applying for additional support. 
• Demonstrates excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to mentor various personalities and working styles. 
• Have an eagerness to learn and a growth mindset while holding exceptionally high standards for the quality of work and a reflex to improve at every turn. Have well-developed emotional intelligence and moral character.
• Have problem-solving and clear communication skills. 

 

Language Skills 

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to communicate effectively with students, families and coworkers, both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively present information to students, families and supervisors.

Reasoning Ability 

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Google applications, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Experience with EdPlan preferred. Must have a high aptitude to learn new software as necessary for the business operations of the school. 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations 

• Current driver's license and valid car insurance 
• Valid Oklahoma certifications in Special Education or School Counselor are preferred

 

Other Qualifications 

• Must be able to pass a state-mandated background check after a conditional offer of employment is made

This position is remotely based and also must travel to various Epic sites. This requires spending a significant amount of time in the car, driving in various conditions and at various times of day. The noise level is quiet to moderately loud (when students are present.)
